| Even though growing up learning Traditional Chinese, I didn't always appreciate the "number of strokes" some of the words have, nevertheless it has become part of me and thanks to my parents, I am glad that I am able to read/write in my culture's language. I would want the same for my children. Would ANYONE let others from another culture decide/dominate/shape the language/culture/ history of YOUR culture for the sake of "convenience"?? Why not? 'UN's action to "unify" the Chinese characters and recognize ONLY Simplified Chinese will have devastating impact upon the Chinese language, culture, history. Internationally, Traditional Chinese would be forgotten and neglected, it would only be a matter of time before Traditional Chinese becomes the next "Latin". (the dead language) Along with this loss of language, would be a culture and history lost forever. ' Especially to those who grew up learning how to read and write in Traditional Chinese and those who can appreciate its beauty, functionality, and existence, we can't let this happen!!!! | So after last year's F-U-N (and near the end, semi-painful) experience of doing Walk for Hunger with a bunch of friends last year, I've decided to do it again this year with hopefully a group of people from my church. The date of this event has always been the first Sunday of May, which will fall on May 6th this year. The total distance for Walk of Hunger is a 20 miles (32.1 km) and with all the rest stops, lunch, and continuing again, it took us a total of 8 eight hours to finish.... On the mid-point there was a free bag of snacks/food for everyone, and at the end point there were free popsicles/ice cream bars. The weather was GORGEOUS last year and hopefully it won't be bad this year either. A little about the event : "Through The Walk for Hunger, Project Bread feeds hungry people by supporting 400 emergency food programs in 136 communities in Massachusetts. Last year, Project Bread-funded agencies served 40 million meals to people in need throughout the state - a 29 percent increase since 2001." I'm setting my fund raising goal to 250 for now and if you're reading this, even though you may not live in MA, I hope you'll consider donating ANY amount to support the cause of feeding hungry ppl over Massachusetts. THANK YOU!!!!! To donate to my personal fund raising goal, click HERE, or if you'd prefer to donate or better, JOIN our (CBCGB) efforts in walking or fund raising, click HERE. | | |
